About

Sunshine Offshore Services was established in Singapore in mid-1999, following the retirement of its founder from Heerema Marine Contractors in the Netherlands, after a career spanning over thirty years with various Heerema-owned and operated companies worldwide.

The company specializes in marine consultancy for the offshore industry and offers services in marine project cargo handling, heavy lifts, floatover operations, and related preparations. This includes vessel selection, inspection and approval, logistics coordination, offshore representation, marine surveys, vessel inspections, FMEA DP trials, marine insurance claims, and specialist chartering recommendations, primarily within the East Asia and Asia-Pacific regions.

Sunshine Offshore Services has provided offshore marine consultancy and corporate social responsibility (CSR) support for various oil companies during the installation of Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) units, Catenary Anchor Leg Mooring (CALM) buoys, Floating Storage and Offloading (FSO) units, platform installations, and pipeline projects. The team has also successfully executed large floatover operations, handling loads of up to 13,000 metric tons from loadout to installation. Additionally, on the project cargo side, the company has actively managed the loading and discharging of specialized project cargo and handled heavy lifts aboard project vessels, including offshore modules, living quarters for cracker installations, cooling towers, steam modules, large high-pressure steam drums, and the preparation of shipments for new build superyachts transported from Asia to Australia and the U.S. coasts.

The company provides cargo superintendents and marine surveyors to various shipping companies based in Singapore and abroad, focusing on heavy lift and project cargo loading and discharging operations, primarily between Southeast Asia and North and South America.

The founder has personally been involved in numerous project heavy lifts and similar cargo movements from China, Korea, and Taiwan to the U.S. East and West coasts, as well as South America. This includes offering on-site expertise in handling, loading, seafastening, and discharging project heavy lift cargoes and shipments of exclusive superyachts. Marine surveys, tow approvals, vessel inspections, and appraisals are performed regularly in the Southeast Asia region, and the founder has served as an expert witness in Singapore for offshore-related court cases.

Having relocated to Singapore in 1994, the founder managed operations in the Far East and Pacific regions, overseeing crewing, purchasing, and logistics. They were involved in numerous offshore projects, installations, and removals across this area, particularly in Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, China, Taiwan, and India.

The founder has been responsible for daily logistics and long-term operations in the Australasian and New Zealand regions, based in Perth and New Plymouth (New Zealand). Significant projects include the installation of the "Maui B" platform and its associated pipeline in New Zealand, as well as the "Goodwin A" platform in Western Australia. Additionally, the founder was seconded to Wijsmuller Transport as Operations Manager to initiate Wijsmuller Ship Management, overseeing the fleet management of Wijsmuller Heavy Lift vessels.

The founder joined Heerema in mid-1972 as Chief Officer on a heavy lift vessel, was promoted to Captain in early 1973, and served as Master/Superintendent on various vessels in the Heerema fleet, including Anchor Handling Tug Supply (AHTS) vessels with up to 12,500 horsepower, Dynamic Positioning Dive Support Vessels with up to 16,000 horsepower, and heavy lift vessels with up to 12,000 metric tons lifting capacity on a global scale. The founder has worked in the Australasian region since 1978 and was promoted to a shore position in late 1988.
